Oklahoma City is fired up about the OKC Thunder NBA team and with good reason! There’s nothing like an underdog (the young Thunder team) taking the big boys (the L.A. Lakers) down a notch or two, and that’s exactly what they did in Game 3 of the first round of the play-offs. With Game 4 on the line, Bev decked herself out in her own form of “Thunder Wear” and headed off to the Ford Center for the excitement.
What a game it was! It’s one thing to stay in a game with a team like the Lakers, it’s another thing altogether to blow them out of the Ford Center and that’s exactly what our scrappy youngsters did Saturday night! I likened it to watching kids on a playground run circles around the older boys and making them look – well… foolish. The grins on the faces of Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Jeff Green and James Harden as they whizzed by the likes of Kobe Bryant was simply awesome.
As I drove Bev home after the 110-89, we were both bursting with pride as we buzzed home with Thunder flags flying high. Game 5 is upon us…. Thunder Up Oklahoma City! Let’s show the West Coast what our NBA team is made of!!!
Like virtually every state in the U.S. (with the possible exception of Hawaii), Oklahoma has seen its fair share of blizzards, snow and ice this winter. I have to admit that I was a tad nervous to take Bev out on the roads, but quickly discovered that I didn’t need to worry. Bev is a trooper, and just like the motto of the postal service: “neither snow nor rain” will keep Bev from making her appointed rounds.
While she can’t navigate three-foot snow banks (but really, what car can?), Bev still manages to maneuver through slush and snow, and carefully tip-toe her way over ice. And because she’s bright green, Bev beams like a beacon in snow-covered parking lots.
It’s my greatest hope that Punxsutawney Phil (the groundhog) in Pennsylvania was wrong, and spring will get here sooner rather than later. But if he’s right, at least I know that Bev will see me through these ridiculously cold winter months.
I for one am looking forward to the spring thaw when I can once again buzz around Oklahoma with Bev’s convertible top down!
Yes, it’s true. Santa (at least when he blessed us with his presence at Public Strategies) traded in his sleigh this year for Bev, my Smart Car. And if I do say so myself, her sour apple green color offset the reindeer, presents, elves and bows perfectly! Bev even kept the Grinch at bay to keep Santa’s elves on schedule!
Santa’s interest in using a Smart Car for his sleigh just solidifies my belief that he shares a number of my core values. Yes, I love to surprise and delight people at the holidays just like Santa, and now I find out that good ole St. Nick is stepping into the 21st century to move about on Christmas Eve. It’s too good to be true.
The reindeers were grateful for his change of heart as well. Even though they powered Bev for the annual present drop, when all was said and done – Bev helped conserve the energy of our reindeer friends by using far less fuel (in this case – the four-legged-powered reindeer energy kind of fuel). Basically, Bev weighs much less than Santa’s old sleigh!
Looking forward to seeing Bev make the rounds with my favorite white-haired, chubby guy in a red suit next holiday season!
As most of you living in Oklahoma City are aware, it’s been rainy for days and last Saturday’s weather for the Route 66 Classics Car Show in Edmond was no different. There we sat, Bev and I, in the rain. But Bev was beautiful and the water just made her sparkle even more!
That sparkle caught the eye of the judges and Bev won “Best Car” in the import class, as well as receiving the Sponsor’s Choice Trophy! It’s official… Bev’s a babe!
Good news! I just registered Bev for the Route 66 Classics in the Park Car Show on September 19, 2009. The show will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Hafer Park (9th/Bryant) in Edmond. The organizers said that they would create a SMART car category if four additional SMART cars entered (for a total of five). It’s time to show Edmond that SMART cars are destined for greatness!
