It was a beautiful Southern California evening as we drove down Beverly Road in Beverly Hills.  My co-worker and I were in town for a professional conference and had plans to ‘bum’ around Rodeo Drive the next day.  But our plans were derailed when we came upon a car dealership that although closed, was lit up from the inside out…and the spotlight in the showroom was shining down on a sour apple green Cabriolet SMART car.  From our vantage point, she was a thing of beauty.  We turned around and got a second look…yep, she definitely tipped the beauty-meter.

The next morning instead of going off to shop for what we couldn’t afford on Rodeo Drive, we decided to head the Mercedes Benz of Beverly Hills dealership to test drive a SMART car.  While hanging out at the dealership, another customer happened in and started telling us about her SMART car.  She went on about having a Rolls Royce and a Mercedes, but her favorite car was her SMART car.  When she left, we asked who she was… Her name was Rachelle and apparently most of her efforts lately were spent trying to get her husband out of jail.

Really?  We had to ask, “What’s he in for?”  The response: murder.  Yikes!  Turns out, Rachelle is the wife of music mogul Phil Spector, but that’s another story.

By the end of the afternoon and after negotiating an awesome price, (she was cheaper than a Honda Civic) our sales guy got to put a ‘sold’ sign on the sour apple green SMART car; she was then promptly shipped off for delivery to Oklahoma City.  We’ve named her Bev (short for Beverly) in honor of the good friends we made in Beverly Hills; by the way, her ID# is 90210.  She’s the hit of OKC.  Are you a proud SMART car owner in Oklahoma?   Let me hear from you!
